BuzzFeed undergoes reorganization that is company-wide isolating activity from news

BuzzFeed is making a significant change that is organizational cleaves its journalistic efforts from the entertainment-focused content, creator Jonah Peretti announced in a memo to staffers Tuesday.

Here’s Peretti’s rationale for the reorganization, explained in a memo to staff provided to Poynter by BuzzFeed:

Having just one “video division” in 2016 makes about the maximum amount of sense as having a “mobile department”. Rather, it will be something we expand and embed throughout the company. As electronic movie becomes ubiquitous, every major effort at BuzzFeed all over the world will see a manifestation as video clip, the same as every thing we do works on mobile and social platforms. In a meeting with Poynter, BuzzFeed News Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith acknowledged the move distances the company’s news unit notably through the “listicles and cat GIFs” cliche utilized endlessly by news reporters in colaboration with its news brand name. But he didn’t mind it that much, anyway.
